Asia Pacific Trustmark Conference Towards a Trusted Alliance in the Asia-Pacific
Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation’s (APEC) Data Privacy Seminar in Canberra in January 2007 highlighted the critical role that trustmark agencies have making the APEC Privacy Framework effective for consumer, business and economies. The international aspect of the framework is
Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPRs). The rules require each economy to
have organisations that will review and approve company assertions that
they are compliant with the APEC Privacy Principles, and will be
accountable. Trustmark organisations are already playing similar roles.
This two-day conference aims to bring all trustmark organisations in the
APEC region to explore how they might be an integral part of the APEC
CBPRs. The conference products will be shared with the APEC Electronic
Commerce Steering Group’s Data Privacy Subgroup as a coordinated input
from the trustmark community. In addition, the conference provides an
opportunity for trustmark organisations in the region to share
experiences and know-how and to promote the regional alliance, which
facilitates trusted online commerce in the Asia-Pacific.
